from rock to tree house

This project seeks to create a balance between the existing buildings and a series of new habitats. The analogy of a tree house is taken as a starting point and contrasted with the seemingly “heavy” existing buildings. The nine created structures are brought together on the site through a targeted choice of materials and the adherence to existing axes to form an overall concept. In this way, the design-defining exposed brick façades of the existing buildings are taken up and freely interpreted to find a new purpose. An open space is proposed that is not only open to the residents of the terraced houses, the “tree house” complex and the existing factory buildings, but also offers a wide variety of special uses (day care centre, community, sauna and fitness room, laundry room, etc.) for the general public.
